Appalachian Sustainable Development (ASD) strives to build a thriving regional food and agriculture system that creates healthy communities, respects the planet, and cultivates profitable opportunities for Appalachians. We do that through five different focus areas: Food Access, Agriculture Education, Workforce Development, Resource Management, and Economic Development. ASD joined the EFC in 2020.

Boston Food Hub is a wholesale aggregator and distributor of fresh produce, dedicated to supporting local and regional growers by streamlining the process of bringing farmers' most plentiful harvests to the wholesale market. Boston Food Hub joined the EFC in 2024.

Farm Fresh Rhode Island is a non-profit food hub expanding community access to local food and supporting farmers and producers in New England. Farm Fresh Rhode Island joined the EFC in 2020.

Farmer Foodshare is a nonprofit food hub based in Central NC whose mission is to increase access to fresh, local food for all and to support the viability of marginalized NC farmers to create an equitable food system. Farmer Foodshare joined the EFC in 2025.

Firsthand Foods is a women-owned, B-Corp certified food hub that connects chefs and consumers with pasture-raised local meats, including pork, beef, and lamb from North Carolina farmers. Firsthand Foods joined EFC in 2020.

Food Connects is a Vermont based food systems nonprofit that operates a Food Hub, which aggregates and distributes regional, source-identified food to wholesale partners, and also provides consulting services to other food businesses. Food Connects joined the EFC in 2020.

FRESHFARM is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit that builds a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient food system in the Mid-Atlantic region by producing innovative solutions in partnership with local communities and organizations. We create food access, economic development, and thriving communities through hands-on education, farmers markets, and food distribution programs. FRESHFARM joined the EFC in 2020.

Freshlist is a Charlotte-based food hub on a mission to cultivate a stronger, more resilient food system where farmers thrive. We source fresh, Carolina-grown produce from independent farms committed to sustainable farming practices and preserving soil health, and deliver it to local restaurants and homes. Freshlist joined the EFC in 2020.

GrowFood taps into the existing assets of small-scale agriculture to help create a stronger rural economy, spurring job creation, and building capacity in communities by connecting farm businesses to the thriving local food movement. GrowFood Carolina joined the EFC in 2020.

Headwater Food Hub sources good food from over 200 regional family farms and businesses and distributes throughout the state of New York. Headwater is evolving our food system by empowering producers, enabling sustainable choices, and growing our good food community. Headwater joined the EFC in 2024.

The Local Environmental Agriculture Project Inc. (LEAP) is a Roanoke-based 501(c)3. LEAP’s mission is to create equitable food and farming systems which prioritize health and abundance. To meet this mission we increase affordable access to local food and provide a variety of viable and consistent market opportunities for local producers. LEAP joined the EFC in 2020.
